President Donald Trump is expected to announce a new commission to focus on mental health, mental illness and other social issues, according to a report from Fox News.
The president is expected in the coming days to announce the commission to be headed by retired Army Lt.
Gen. Mark Esper, a veteran of the Iraq War and the first openly gay Marine general.
The commission would be composed of five members, including Esper, who have served in top leadership positions.
Trump has said the commission will focus on “mental health, as well as other social and economic issues.”
In a statement to The Associated Press, Trump said the group will “address the root causes of the epidemic of mental illness among the American people and their impact on the nation.”
It’s unclear what role Esper will play in the commission.
The White House said he was appointed to the commission as an adviser.
